10' - 12' fishing rod (depending on size of the flag - this is for the big ones)
48" 3/8 dowel sanded smooth (to use as "wing" portion of wing/flag combo)
AND
Scarf (the 8mm China Silk (any of the squares or the semicircle) or 5mm China Silk work well) - you will either want to order them with the "flag" seam in place, or you will need to sew a pocket in the top of the scarf like the black line indicates in the image below:
